I have know girls as early as 9 to get there periods, but it seems on average (i deal with lots of girls from ages 8 - 18, so i'm basing what i know on this) most of them get them around 11 - 12 of age. some will be later reaching into there teens but this is sometimes due to health issues, pshycological issues, or if they are very althetic person, swimmer, cross country runner etc sometimes has a delay effect on the cycle. It different for every person

Usually, the onset of menstruation (menarche) is at 12 to 14 years of age. But, it is normal even if the onset is about two years earlier or later than the above range. Moreover, it is important to remember that initial few cycles (months) can be irregular in terms of timing as well as the amount of flow. It is very normal for the initial cycles to be anovulatory, i.e., no ova (eggs) are released, which cannot result in pregnancy. Usually, such cycles are shorter than what is considered to be normal. The normal period between two cycles is said to be 22 to 35 days.
If the onset is earlier than 10 years of age it is known as 'precocious puberty'. It is also associated with early development of secondary sexual characters. It may be because of a pituitary tumor, etc.
Likewise, the menarche may be delayed, which may pose problems in the future like infertility.
Many times, these problems of early or delayed onset are also because of psychological issues--so, they should also be taken care of.
Hope this helps. Bye & take care.

When girls get their periods from the age of 10 years, actually depends a lot on genetics. Girls often start menstruating at approximately the same age their mothers or grandmothers did. Also, certain ethnic groups, on average, go through puberty earlier than others. For instance, African-American girls, on average, start puberty and get their periods before Caucasian girls do.

It depends on the girls genetic makeup. Looking at her grandmother and mothers history of when they began their periods is a ood guideline too.
