Hi there, couple of options here. Firstly, is there a floppy drive, and if so is there a disk in it? If yes, then take it out and try again. If NO, then one of two things has happened, either your hard disk has failed or been damaged and the operating system has gone with it, or your bios is unable to detect the hard disk or is not booting from it. Depending on the make / model, hit F2, F10, DEL, ESC etc on the post screen (where it tells you the make / model of the laptop etc, and check the boot sequence which will be on one of the menus, also often there is a page that show you if it can see the hard disk, if the drive doesn't show up, then it's either failed or come loose, if it does show up, then chances are you are going to need to reinstall. Hope that helps :) IT@Tonicweb.co.uk

You can insert the original Windows XP installer Disc and try to repair your current installation. Just follow the step by step instructions after the CD boots up.
However, it sometimes doesn't work and it would be best if you just re-installed your OS without formatting your hard disk to retain the old data.

try pressing down the control button and tap the f11 button on the screen that comes up after the load screen. A screen should come up that is with two boxes. Restore, reboot, click on restore and wait. This will delete everything on the computer and bring it back too it's factory settings.

It could be possible that your computer is ONLY trying to boot from another device and not your hard drive. Check your BIOS and make sure the 1st boot device is the HARD DRIVE.
Other than that, your boot record could have been destroyed.
If you have a floppy drive on your laptop......take the disk out.
