I have a good friend whos 2 year old marriage is very rocky because he and his wife have conflicting sex drives- My friend tells me he wants it at least twice a week, and he says she never wants it at all- Both are in thier mid 30s. They now sleep in seperate rooms, and havent had sex in 4 months- . I think their marriage is doomed, unless they can reach a comprimise about sex. I had a hunch they would face this problem, as they married before sleeping with each other.
How important is sexual compatibility in a marriage? I think it is a major part- not the only thing, but it ties in with intimacy...
If your spouce decided they didnt want sex anymore, how would that affect the marraige for you? I have a hunch if things don't change, my friend may be filing divorce papers..

the absolute absence of desire for sexual activity is an abnormality in humans. Is she getting it elsewhere? If not she should consult a medical professional.

Sex does play a very important in a marriage. I no the feeling I am there half the time with my mate and I am just his girlfriend. I am not sure why but for some reason I think that many persons take it upon them self to get to comfortable and take each other for granted. But I will say one thing, if something dont change someone is going to probaly cheat if it has not already happen, and then it is going to be real sad. Have they talked about why this is happening? Sounds to me like there is something lagging in the realationship. Sometimes you have to be creative. Or tell your partner what is missing or to even talk about it and to find out why this might be happening. It is very likely a divorce will take place , And hopefully it wont be a sad one with cheating taking place to make it happen.

It is very important and it is one of the basic things in Marriage. In a good marriage the couples are supposed to discuss every thing in openess. If one of them doesn't want to have sex he/she should justify the problem and tell the other partner the true reason. Some women have pain when having sex due to some diseases. So this could be the reason for not having sex and the proper medication should be applied.
Therefore, to have such a pleasant life regarding sex life. openess is very important .You don't have to keep your feelings only. You have to make sure that your partner is enyoying it equally with you. Some men do not care about their wives orgasm and this may be the reason for them not to have sex with them.
The key here is discuss every thing with your partner in sexual matter or other matters.
Good Luck!

Yes sexual compatibility is very much essential in a marriage but I disagree that one should have sex before marriage to avoid this problem. Lots of people in India have sex only after marriage and there marital life is much , much better than that in the western countries. What glues marriages is mutual committment in life stating that they will stick together inspite of facing both known and unknown hurdles in there life. Regarding your friend ask him to go along with his wife to a sexolgist who is there just for this purpose to solve all the problems related in sex and they can lead a happy life after that.

It's important, but it's not most important. If my lover didn't want sex anymore, I'd be worried about his health. Maybe your friend's wife has some sort of depression/anxiety going on. She needs to see a doctor and they may need some marriage counselling as well.

This is not a sexual problem. It is a problem of communicating needs and committment to one another. They need to decide if they want to stay together.
Twice a week is not very much to ask. She apparently is not having her needs met. He needs to find out what she wants.
You don't have to have sex before you are married but you do have to be able to talk about feelings and expectations.

It's not natural for her to not want it at all. There could be a psychological problem, physical problem, or emotional problem. The biggest thing with a couple is to communicate with each other, even about your problems. Then you can work through it together. I have 11 years of experience in my own relationship.

It is extremely important due to one fact - we're talking about marriage... promising to be mutually exclusive when it come to SEX.
Duh!
You can't do anything else in the world when married except have someone else as a sex partner....

"compatibility" is important in a marriage and "Sexual Compatibility" is the same. If one of the two is unsatisfied in any sense, that affects the marriage in some way. Be it sexual or any other, Dissatisfaction is a killer of any relationship.
