I have a forced air heating and cooling unit on my home. When I turn the heat on and leave it for more than an hour or two it blows the fuse and the outside unit is completely frozen over. What would cause this? Is it something I can fix or do I need to call a repairman since it's a fairly new unit.

Your answer above this one are completely wrong. You have a heat pump. It is common for a heat pump to get iced over on the outside unit coils. Heat pumps have a defrost cycle that takes place occassionally. It sounds like while in defrost, or attempting to go into defrost, you have a problem that needs the attention from a pro. You will need to call the repairman because heat pumps are more complex that you realize. Good luck!

Chances are what is outside is the compressor for your A/C. As long as you are not using A/C it is probably OK if it is in a snow bank.
However your heater blowing fuses is a concern and needs to be looked at by a repairman.
Are you sure you switched the switch on the thermostat from Cool to Heat?

lookup your manufacteror of that unit on the internet, there might be a trouble shooting faq there on their site, or a 1-800 number to call if problems..
