For a long time I thought this strip of flesh was my hymen, but I read somewhere that the hymen is on the outside. The flesh often gets pulled on my tampon and it hurts when it's stretched. It's also about the thickness of a tampon string and is flesh colored. What is it?

The hymen is not on the outside, it's on the inside. I think I might know what you're talking about. I have something similar coming directly out of the vaginal opening, but I really have to spread myself wide down there to see it. Is that the place you're talking about? But mine's not small like a string, it's about a centimeter long, and a thick piece of flesh. I can bear down and make it kind of pop out. I can only see it with a mirror. It's a triangle. Otherwise, it covers the hole so that when I spread my legs you can't see I have a hole, like protection. I figured it was left over from my cavewoman ancestry or something. If mine was the size of a string, I would talk to a doctor and find out what it's for. I would have it removed if it's not needed. It sounds annoying.

And this is on the inside? I would ask my doctor about that. Maybe you could have it removed.
