Any speed over the speed of sound (Mach 1), which is approximately 343 m/s, 1,087 ft/s, 761 mph or 1,235 km/h in air at sea level, is said to be supersonic.

Speeds greater than 5 times the speed of sound are sometimes referred to as hypersonic. Speeds where only some parts of the air around an object reach supersonic speeds are labelled transonic (typically somewhere between Mach 0.8 and Mach 1.3).

(Sounds are travelling vibrations (pressure waves) in an elastic medium. In gases sound travels longitudinally at different speeds, mostly depending on the molecular mass and temperature of the gas; (pressure has a little effect). Since air temperature and composition varies significantly with altitude, mach numbers for aircraft are related to the speed of sound at sea level. In water at room temperature supersonic can be considered as any speed greater than 1,440 m/s or 4,724 ft/s. In solids, sound waves can be longitudinal or transverse and have even higher velocities.)

Supersonic is term to specify the speed which overtakes the speed of sound (in air).

The speed of sound in air is 331 m/s. That is about 1192 km/ hr.

If an object travels more than this (speed), then it is called as supersonic objects. for more click the following link.

Supersonic is the song that Fergie copied for Fergalicious that not many people have heard. Supersonic was made by the one-hit wonder girl rapping group of the eighties J.J. Fad. Go one you tube and watch the msuic video.

supersonic means faster than sound i.e.more than 330m/s in air .
when any object goes faster than sound , a pressure wave is created around the object ,this pressure wave is known as SONICBOOM.
there another word called hypersonic which means travelling at a speed faster than double the speed of the sound

Faster than the speed of sound. 760 miles per hour, 1100 miles per second. It's easy to go faster than the speed of sound (although I've never done it), but theoritically impossible to go faster than light, for example. To go faster than sound, you just need to build a rocket-plane like the X-15
