From each comference 8 teams go to the playoffs, of those 3 are the division winners and then 5 wild cards(the teams other than the division champs with the best records). That makes 6 division champs and 10 wild cards total

There are 3 divisions in each conference. With each division champion automatically in. Then the next 5 best teams are placed in according to record. So 5 in each conference are what could be considered a wild card even they are not called wild card in the NBA.

You are all wrong. There are 3 divisions in each conference (east and west). The winners of the divisons earn an automatic bid into the playoffs, and then the other 5 spots in each conference go to wildcard teams. You can have the 10th best record in the conference, but if you win the divison you are in the playoffs no matter what. So to recap, in the east....1 winner of the ATLANTIC division, 1 winner of the CENTRAL division, 1 winner of the SOUTHEAST division, and 5 wildcard teams. In the west....1 winner of the SOUTHWEST division, 1 winner of the NORTHWEST division, 1 winner of the PACIFIC division, and 5 wildcard teams.
