Japanese also has two phonetics (guides). Hiragana (for Japanese words) and Katakana (for all foreign words). I hope I spelled Hiragana and Katakana them right. If not, SORRY. Each have about 40 characters that help people pronounce the words. The only other way if to get a pronunciation dictionary.

P.S. Almost all (or maybe all) of the characters Chinese. I once read that the Japanese took their written language from the Chinese. Unfortunately, the words have different sounds and meanings.

You read the kana (hiragana and katakana) by learning what sounds each symbol represents. It's not difficult to learn hiragana and katakana. It's kind of like learning the alphabet. You just have to memorize the sounds that each symbol (or letter) represents.

For kanji, you read it by memorizing the meaning of each character, as well as the pronunciations. Once you learn words that use the kanji, it becomes easier to read new words that use that kanji. Also, you will remember it better. Sometimes, knowing the radicals (the parts that make up each character) can help you to figure out a kanji's meaning, if you don't know it.

Hi.(Konnichiwa) We have Kanji techniques..it depends on the symbol, it has corresponding strokes. I have partially completed my Japanese course..and writing is a bit harder than that of speaking.
