Any trauma, which includes piercing, to the skin will cause swelling. You should have been given aftercare advice and what to expect in the following days/weeks after your piercing. I personally wouldn't worry too much at a relitivley early stage, but keep an eye on it and if you're not happy see the people who carried out the piercing or see your GP / Doctor.

If your lip feels hotter than usual and throbbing then you could have an infection - see your Dr. If it is not so then it is probably bruising from the piercing and a bruise will appear in a day or so ,or you could be allergic to the metal in the lip stud .

you are bound to suffer some bruising never fancied piercing myself spent most of adult life avoiding being pierced by Knives bullets etc but as long as theres no infection i would say wash out mouth with slightly salty water, if danger of infection and there is as weve more bugs in our mouths than round our bums apparently .So perhaps precaution to have antibiotics you dont want to end up looking like Pete Burns so keep an eye on it

Lip piercings ALWAYS swell up. I have both sides of my lip pierced.. they were sooo swollen the first few days.. Just keep it clean and take care of it. The swelling will go away. Give it time.

Me and my sister have our lips pierced. Both of us had swollen lips for about 2 weeks.

So I guess it is normal, its just body reacting to this 'foreign' material on your lip.
