Heavy Metal... If we sold WMD to Iraq, how come nobody found them? Are you saying that France is a terrorist nation too?

The USA and by that I mean the government not the people want the money that is in these middle eastern countries ie the oil. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 etc yet they were the first to be targeted by the USA not Bin Laden who was responsible.

There is nothing left that they can doo in Iraq as they have already done enough damage. My husband is Iraqi and the situation there now is heart breaking. There are bombs going off EVERY day killing hundreds of women and children yet all that you hear reported is the deaths of soliders that should not even be there. The British and the Americans need to bring their troops home and let Iraq lick its wounds and try and get back what they had before all this happened.

My husband told me last night that you used to be able to go out in the street at any time and be safe and now you are not even safe in your own home. All for what? a pathetic excuse that there may of been WMD? All the innocent people dead because of two little men - BUSH and BLAIR and do they care? NO

Dont blame it on the Americans blame it on the men in charge.

Many Americans do not understand this either. The most logical reason, and it is based on faulty interpretation of information by the "intelligence" sector, is that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction (chemical, biological, etc.) and would supply them to the terrorists who attacked the World Trade Center. It turns out that this was probably not the case.

Much of the controversy also revolves around Saddam's probable involvement with terrorist organizations. Whether this is true or not is not clear.

The continued involvement, I think, is due to the fact that we cannot leave such a situation to be dealt with by the Iraqis after being the main contributor to causing the situation. It the US were to pull out without a stable and self-sustaining Iraqi government, the power vacuum would be filled by Iran and Syria. This would not be a good thing for the US or the West.

Join the club, most Americans don't either. What appears to be happening is that a group of men, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and others, got together at something called the PNAC http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article1665.htm
and came up with a plan for how to use the US military to gain hegemony over the oil in the Middle East. This happened in the 1990s, and when Bush came to power, they put this plan in place. They invaded Iraq and Afghanistan so that our military bases or friends extend from Egypt to Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan. Now we threaten Iran as the last oil state holdout in the region with Aircraft carriers and verbal threats. The American public does not suspect this, having been told we went there to set the Iraqis free from tyranny. If you believe that about Bush, that he cares about such things, I would be surprised. We were told that we went into Afghanistan to get Osama bin Laden, but you will notice we have spent no time doing that either. This is a play for world power and plunder, and so far it has been very successful for Bush and his war making friends, and disastrous for the US in so many obvious ways, including a massive financial debt for the country. I hope that is at least a rough outline.

Marco, France sold weapons to Saddam despite the unilateral weapons ban placed on Iraq at the end of Gulf I. Brand new anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles of French origin were found in warehouses after the fall of Iraq to US Forces.
The oil vouchers were given to the French Press, Chirac aides, and UN officials to press for the lifting of santions the UN imposed on Iraq. Google is your friend, look it up.

Marco, did you even understand what I posted?. I said Anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles, not WMD's. Anti tank and aircraft missiles are CONVENTIONAL weapons.

As you can tell-there are many ans. to your question and most folks agree that the Amer. people are just as confused as you & everyone else-I'm an Amer.
The Amer. people have been lied to and their pockets are being drained thanks to the gov. not to mention the lives being lost of its sons and daughters.
As you have read-OIL is the big reason and with gobal warming problems we are all wondering why bother with it-change our cars, industry etc. but no, those in gov. are slaves to big business whos lobbies are powerful in D.C.
The ans. to your Q. is too big and involved to ans. simply.

They want the OIL, it's clear, the OIL OIL OIL. thats all, and if they can kill all Iraqi's and stop women from getting pregnant they will do so for OIL,

Because america has a huge population and the oil there is getting limited and high prices, so they want thier country to feel satisfied, so they will rule all countries that have oil.

They have saudi arabia, qatar, iraq, SOON Iran and so on.

thank God my country doesnt have OIL

These are all good responses. Who said there's no intelligent posting on Yahoo! Answers?! The US invasion and occupation of Iraq is sad, frustrating, and tragic. Especially for these persons:

Well, Hmmmmm....Let's see.....No WMD....No threat to the USA.....Iraq did not do 9-11......At this point we're trying to get out of Iraq without shame on our soul. We (USA) made a terrible mistake by going to war with Iraq. I'm ashamed of the USA. I wish my country was as smart as France.
