Ayn Rand: What is your opinion of her philosophy?

She was the final word in Objectivism.

I have always found Rand fascinating|


She is always going on about selfishness being a virtue, but what comes out in her writings is that she really cares about people|

She really cares about the little guy being happy and receiving justice|

Just read her stuff, and you will see that|

And isn't that what is important in life, and isn't the heart of a good person someone who cares about that?

So despite what she says on the surface (and despite her philosophical errors), she looks like somone who really cared about what is ultimately right|


And another thing - she absolutely *despised* Immanuel Kant|

I don't blame her|

For Kant f***** up more people in their thinking than anyone knows|

The *whole* of what is wrong in society now is Kant's legacy|

Of course Descartes preceeded him with his *transcendental sophistry,* which formed the foundation of modern "philosophy," but Kant drove the spike through the heart|


And of course, there were all these other intellectual parasites after that, such a Hume, Locke, Mill, Spinoza (the razor), Libnetz, and people like that|

Those cannot be classified as philosophers, but should be put into the category of *sophists|*

For the very definition of a philosopher is a lover of wisdom.

But because of those sophists, society has never had less wisdom than it has has in this day and age|| || ||

I think she has a greater optimism of the capability of the human mind than exists. She tends to idealize the rational and exaggerates the ability of humans to overcome their inate desire to conform and transcend the mundane. I love her writings, and would like to live like her heroes, but unfortunately the state of humankind is too far gone. Pity.
