Unfortunately, it's true. Most people are more likely to just sit and be entertained by the TV than anything else. After work they want to do nothing especially have the responsibility of kids. It's one reason why kids get into trouble. They want some attention and some guidance and they aren't getting it. There are many good educational TV shows available but kids don't generally watch the good ones. They also want to be entertained all the time. It's sad and I wish the electricity would stop sometimes so people would see there's a lot more to life than sitting there thinking about nothing and not living your life.

I am an American. I HATE TV and never watch it. Ever. That is abnormal though. Most Americans watch a lot of TV. I don't know a single person who likes TV more than their kid and I certainly don't know a single person who things TV is a good school teacher. Seems your friend exaggerated a bit.
