What's the difference, if any, between the contraceptive pill Triquilar ED, Triquilar ED 28 and Triquilar 28?. Is it just a pharmaceutical company difference or actually a composition difference? thanx for your help.

Hi,

The TRIQUILAR ED pack holds 3 memo-packs, each containing 21 small, round hormonal tablets (i.e. 6 light-brown, 5 small white and 10 ochre tablets) and 7 large white non-hormonal tablets.

Triquilar ED is a three-phase hormonal preparation that contains combination of low doses of estrogen and progestogen; It has 6 tablets each containing 0.05 mg levonorgestrel + 0.03 mg ethinylestradiol; 5 tablets each containing 0.075 mg levonorgestrel + 0.04 mg ethinylestradiol and 10 tablets each containing 0.125 mg levonorgestrel + 0.03 mg ethinylestradiol. It also contains 7 large white tablets which do not contain any hormone and acts as a placebo, during which you will get your periods. So you will take one tablet everyday for 28 weeks and start the next blister pack on the 29th day.

Triquilar ED and Triquilar ED 28 are the same.

In some countries, you can get Triquilar in blister pack and it may contain only 21 tablets; thus, the 7 white non-hormonal tablets will not be there. Women who are given that pack are advised to take the 21 tablets serially for the first three weeks and then for one week not to take any tablet. This is however, being phased out in most countries. The composition of the tablets in this pack for the 21 are the same as in the first 21of Triquilar ED or Triquilar ED 28.

Hope this helps
