She is old enough to choose her own bedtime. Just make sure she gets up in time to leave for school. If she stays up too late and is tired remind her that choices have consequences and she will learn to make better choices.

I am 13, 7th grade. My parents don't let me watch T.V. any later that 9:00 (expect one night of the week). Then I go up to my room and read untill 9:45. But, my bus comes at 6:00 in the morning, and I get up at 5:30. You usually need about 8 hours of sleep per night. Jusst to tell you, you can't force your daughter to get to sleep. Have a reasonable bedtime, one that she won't think is WAY too early. You could ask her what she thinks is a reasonable time, and go from there. If she misses 1-2 hours of sleep 1 night, it is like missing a whole night of sleep!! Good luck!!

This is the bedtime routine for our 14 year old boy. At 9 television/computer goes off and he has a bath, brushes teeth etc. He can then read quietly in his room until 10. This is good downtime for both him and us. Lights off at 10. His alarm goes off at 7 am so he gets 9 hours of sleep (which he needs, otherwise he's cranky). He's out of the house by 7.45 to catch the bus and he has lots of time to get ready.

Going to bed by 10:00 should give her plenty of rest on a school night. She can be up as early as 6:00 and still have gotten 8 hours of sleep, and leave on time (at least I hope it doesn't take her an hour and forty-five minutes to get ready!!!). I do think you should be more lenient on weekend nights :-)

My 13 year old son goes to bed between 9.30 and 10pm, he is up at 07.30am and gets the school bus at 08.25am. If he goes to bed later than this he is unable to get out of bed in the morning, trouble waking up.
I would never suggest letting your daughter decide. My daughter who is 17 thinks she can stay up till as late as she wants, but she doesn't realise that she's compensating for the lack of sleep in the week by lazing in bed all day at the weekends. No good when studying needs to be done.
If you want her to achieve her goals in school she needs a good night's sleep and a decent breakfast in the morning to start the day.
