I feel like I about about to burst. Okay I am pretty much your typical college student. I am a sophomore/junior studying English (now). I started off in biology, then switched to graphic design, then certification in bridal consultanting, now English, and I am about to change to Communications. I was pretty much forced into biology but I really aspire to go into advertising, hence the remaining majors. But now I am at the breaking point. I have already had 3 internships, 5 leadership positions in the thousand organizations I am/was active in, and at least 15 credit hours a semester. Now I have a part time job at blockbuster that is a living hell. I feel that I need to take a semester off from college but that is kind of hard to do taking that most of my college is funded with scholarships and I don't want to loss them. What should I do? Should I take a break what decent paying job should I go into so that I am not just sitting at home (have to help the fiance pay bills)? Help!

Yeah, I had a "midlife" at 20, which coincided with the movie Almost Famous's release, which caused me to grow my hair extra long and rock Led Zeppelin for the better part of two years while wondering when filmmaking would kick in while pining after various unattainable women.

Since then, I've seen almost all my friends go through some sort of weird crazy period around 19 or 20. It's common.

If I were you, I would stop doing pretty much all activities except one that you know for sure you like but doesn't take up a lot of time, then use the empty time to find yourself, what you like, etc. Watch movies, listen to a lot of music, write, and hang out with different people (while still retaining friends), cause really what's the point when you a) don't know for sure what you want to do and b) will likely wind up with some sort of unimportant desk job in marketing after a series of shitty high schoolish jobs after college.

Everyone seems to go through it, then when you're in your late twenties you get a better idea of what you really want to do (having to do largely with your hatred of where you are now, such as a shitty desk job) and then really assess how to get where you want to be, then do everything you can to get there because you feel your life flying by.

Congratulations! You're becoming a big person!

And you'll spend the rest of your days wishing you were still in college. Enjoy it now and don't bog yourself down with a bunch of meaningless horseshit that noone's going to care about once you graduate anyway. Have fun, be young, drink Pepsi.

Figure out you quickest path to a degree from where you are right now. Take those courses and finish it off. This will give you a goal and a chance to focus your efforts on it. Take the classes that will get you through and get the piece of paper.

When I was in you shoes a good friend of mine told me "I used to think college wasn't important, all it is is a piece of paper. Now I realize college IS important, and all it is is a piece of paper."

Pick a path and stick it out - you will go crazy thinking about the "what if" and miss out on life.

There is a song I heard at the end of the movie Big Kahuna - A movie adaption of the play "Hospitality Suite" that I found true when I heard it and more true every day since - One line that you should consider is this:
"Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives; some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't. "

Check out the link to the whole song.

Hell, I couldn't make a decision when I was 19. So I let go of all my scholarships and joined the army instead (the last thing you expect me to do if you'd known what a nerd I was in high school). And yeah, I wasn't the only guy with genius level IQ to freak out and do what I did. Don't worry about those scholarships, you'll get them back like I did (didn't expect to get back to civilian life, but I wasn't earning much, so I went back to University and looked for another scholarship). And right now I want to go back, I seem to prefer running all day under heavy rain than solve problems no one else understands (except that I won't make ends meet if I do so).

You're just stressed. If you're still going through the exact same scenario when you're 40, THEN it'll be a midlife crisis.
Don't you have a college advisor? I'd suggest talking to one of them. Steal some "you" time. Take a hot bath... eat some ice cream... rest. Maybe even talk to your instructors about your dilemmas. I'm sure they would be willing to help direct you. All the major-switching is pretty normal. Hang in there. You'll figure it out and be all the richer for the varied experiences you've had.

Don't ever take a semester off from college. Next thing you know, one will turn into two, and so on and so forth. Finish school! You are almost halfway done!
