SKY ENGINEER TO THE RESCUE!!!!!

all the answers on here are good ones but there are a few little bits and pieces that us engineers do to get everything going again provided that the box hasnt died!

1. press 'services' on your remote, then 4 for system set up then 6 for signal, it will show you what signal your getting if any,
picture quality and signal strength, you need bars on both of these to get picture, if not then your dish is off line with the sat. call sky for service call.

2. switch off mains, check the F connections(the silver or gold plugs or screw on connetors on the cable going into the box) sometimes the cable has come loose from inside the F. unscrew from the box and look inside the top of the F, there should be no braiding coming through the hole, only the white foam/plastic spacer and the single center wire, if there is braiding then that would stop the picture getting through. The centre wire should be flush with the top of the F just a few millimeters over cuz if its below the top of the F the wire isnt touching the bit inside the box to send the picture over.

3. Follow your cables from the box to the dish making sure there are no magor kinks(causing the center wire to break) no cuts, or staples through the cable(trust me anything is possible! i have been to houses when there dog had chewed through the cable!)

4. LNB, the blob on the arm looking at you dish, check the cables going to the LNB, repeat part of step 2(checking the F)

SKY ENGINEER TIP!!
5. Take the power cable out the back of the box, press and hold the 'back up' on the front of the box now put the power cable back in, keeping the back up button still press in, after about 10 seconds a black screen will apear saying 'SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATE' with other stuff saying about dont switch off the box it could take up to 10mins or maybe more, even if the black update screen is still there after 10 mins dont worry its downloading new software so be patient! soon the white writing will go and then just a black screen will show, DONT try and switch it on yet cuz nothing will happen, let it be for a few minutes bcuz its warming up, it should turn on when its ready or after 5 mins turn it on yourself.

Repeat section 1.

any joy?

if not its time to phone sky so either your dish is out of line of the sat, your LNB is bust or your sky box is....well.....F**ked!!!

Hope this helps!!

If that is the in common words difficulty you've then that is probable Sky's fault and under no circumstances some thing you may do yet wait till the signal comes lower back. once you've different faults ie. a lot of recording mess united statesor different straightforward issues then there will be some thing incorrect with the field. If it persists then you truly might want to attempt ringing Sky technical help and they'll communicate you via some assessments..... that is more low priced than a decision out.you may also attempt urgent the facilities button on your sky distant and then scroll all the way down to equipment set up, then all the way down to signal attempt. you should make certain 4 bars.....2 excellent and a pair of bottom . in case you do not then some thing is inaccurate

There are a number of possibilities. Rebooting, as suggested, by switching off and on after a short interval might work. But if it doesn't the reasons could be 1) your receiver is faulty; 2) your LNB (the bulbous thing on your dish) is faulty; or most likely, 3) your dish is out of alignment.
If it's 1) or 2), you will probably need to get replacements. The best way to check if it's 3 is to get a satellite finder (£4 from Lidl when available). Connect it between your LNB and receiver and if you get no reading, you know it's probably 3). Loosen the screw fittings and move your dish slowly until you get a strong reading on the finder. You can also try this without the finder until you get a picture on your TV, but it will take longer. Dishes are often blown out of alignment by the wind when they are not securely fixed.

We had this problem a while back, we tried turning it off and checked the co-axial lead 'round the back but none of that worked ... and if none of the above works, try this!

Take the viewing card out and clean it with a new, dry, soft cloth (I think I may have used my T-Shirt, anyway...) clean any dust off around the slot and put the card back in. It worked for our box, we did it all whilst the box was turned on and within seconds the picture was back again.

It seems all the messages you get on the screen have to be interpreted and usually mean something completley different.

Try switching the box completely off including off at the mains. Leave for a few minutes then turn back on again. If this doesnt work then ring Sky. It is quite a common problem with Sky.

1. Try switching off everything for 5 minutes and restart it all.
2. Check the cables.
3. If all else fails, call Sky.

First of all, check all of the leads are properly connected in the back of your sky box. Then unplug it and switch it back on, it'll take about a minute to re-boot. If that dont work, phone Sky and give' em some abuse!

Certainly worth re-booting - gosh we're all such clever people. Try unplugging and then counting to 20. Usually does the trick. Exhaust every other option before phoning sky because they will try and sell you a different package/new box/new house/new family.........

It happened to me it is: 1. Your satellite on the roof has been moved in the wind over night even a little bit 2.The weather is bad above the satellite in space so just wait until any weather clears.

Tv set is produced to the cheapest common denominator - i.e., the common IQ of everyone, whereas a reserve is written to the best common denominator
