I'm not sure there are any advantages. California's Central Valley (Redding through Sacramento down to Bakersfield) is really a two season climate. In winter, it rains, gets grey, a little cold. In summer it never (as in NEVER) rains, sky is blue, weather is warm/hot. It is good for agriculture, I suppose, but it surely is boring to live in. No fall colors, no spring. Just sort of blam, you get up in the morning and the lawn is full of dead leaves and it must be winter.
