I believe President Bush's "No Child Left Behind Act" has had an effect on schools, especialy with the SOLs and their impact on schools. Can anyone confirm or refute this?

I'm looking more for opinions based on the facts that are out there. I know a good bit about the subject already. The reason I posted this question was to see what others' thoughts are on the subject.

I know this is a small portion of the school population, but children in special education programs are required, just like children in the regular program, to take the same tests for their grade level.

I have a close friend whose younger sister is autistic, is in the eighth grade in an autism program in a public school, and is required to take the normal eighth grade-level test every year, although the academic work they are doing would be at a much lower level. Autistic programs often base grade-levels on skills rather than on academics (such as writing, organization or speaking, versus math or social studies), so the material they cover is not equivalent to the normal school system.

The No Child Left Behind Act wastes schools' time and money testing kids in these special programs with tests that are inappropriate for their level. 'Nough said.

yes, the testing has had an effect of schools..looked to California...I believe a few schools has been effected greatly by the "No Child Left Behind Act".......if a school is failing and it is reflected by the test scores of the children..than this school has a certain amount of time to correct the problem and if they don't ...than a person will be sent in to over see and make recommendations for improvement and if this fails the school could lose their federal funding....the Act also, requires teachers to teach the subjects that they were educated to do...no more English teachers teaching science and vice versa....

I am not sure just how much negative effect or positive effect this Act has had....but I do know some schools and teachers have been effect by it......... search the net for news related articles on this subject ..I am sure you will find what you are looking for.....
