I have an injury to my hand, feels like it is at the base of my 5th metacarpal bone (the bones between the wrist and fingers).

I practice alot of martial arts, and do alot of bagwork and sparring, so i'm not even sure when exactly (roughly 2 weeks ago) or how i recieved the injury.

I am still able to move my little finger, but with alot of pain, and a "pop" when i move it back and forth.

i can barely stand to put any pressure on the bone itself, much less do any weight bearing excercises (i.e. pushups, handstands...).

Also, there seems to be a small lump, or some sort of "deformity" (for lack of a better word) that protrudes outwards when i make a fist.

I do not have, nor can i afford health insurance right now, so going to a Doctor is a last resort right now. any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Yes, it could be fractured. I took an X-ray of a hand on Fri. that was a complete spiral fracture. It was approx. half the length of the fifth metacarpal and the pt was still able to move the hand and fingers. From your description, it sounds like it may be a "boxers fracture" especially when you say the base of the bone(the base of the metacarpal is the furthest from the wrist). You should try to see a doctor, preferably one that has x-ray at his/her office(it would be cheaper than going to the hospital for it(at least in my area)).

This is prbably a fracture. The pop ondicates that cartilage is ruptured or caught between fractured pieces. Fasten a crepe bandage tightly and see if it helps.

you should still be able to move your hand even though you may have broken a bone.the only time you would not be able too move a broken joint is if you have damaged the nerves.the best thing you can do to prevent future problems with your hand is to seek medical help now.

I think you should go to the doctor again. This could make him have to have his hand rebroken!!
