Well, it could be one of many reasons. One might be that they are not interested in selling at this time, but want to see if their house could attract a lot of people to a showing.

Since they were an expired RE listing, it could have been on for a while and therefore they decided it is not the right time to sell.

I think that if you have an established relationship with your customers, then you should be able to ask them point blank. It never hurts to know why.

I agree with the first user in that, if they do not decide to change their minds in two to three months - forget it. They most likely are not interested in selling their house and probably are not going to.

Because they are not motivated to sell, or they realize that there is something wrong with the house that will cause a problem with the sale going through (foundation, bad plumbing,...) Don't waste your time with unmotivated sellers. If you cannot get any interest in a house in three months, there is a problem. This is what I have always heard.
