Not the Lascaux caves, no but closer to home.
Creswell Crags in Derbyshire has a system of caves inhabited before and after the last ice age and in 2004 they found the first cave art ever found in Britain. Not paintings but relief carvings and engravings. There is evidence that they might once have been coloured with various pigments. I've been on the cave art tour twice and found it very interesting indeed. Have a look at the Creswell Crags website for more details. yes - absolutely brill ! you can't get into the actual cave , but there's a 'mock-up' nearby.
and we ate tripe @ a nearby restaurant !
