hair is protein - it does not absorb anything regardless of what the commericals say. You need to heat up and soften the skin. A hot face cloth on the face for a minutes can do it. LIke in the old cowboy movies when the barber put the hot towel on the face.
The foam is only intend to make the hair stay still so the razor can cut it evenly with out folding over. Also it tends to relieve the face as there are soothing agents for skin in the foam.

forget the foam! Unless you have a foam heater, than any barber will tell you that your foam is worthless. Your best bet is to take a hot shower, and then just shave (I actually do it in the shower). Your face should be soft enough from the hot water, and then you don't need shaving cream.

many find it easier to shave while in the shower the hot water and steam will soften the hair making it easier to shave, i also recommend the mach 3 (not turbo) it has improved my shaving vastly. after you let the face soak in the steam/water allow the foam to soak in for a couple of minutes and try small strokes rinsing the razon completely in between. also instead of after shave i use witchhazel on my face, it is a natural astringant. happy shaving and good luck!

Splash warm water on your face to soften the whiskers, then rub the foam on.
