The perfect image, the perfect body, the perfect person. It would appear that our society will only accept the perfect.

I asked a question a while ago about whether people could accept someone who was different (as in not your perfect kalvin klien model with the personality to match but not violent or disagreeable) as a partner and 80% of those who responded said that they would try for or wait for something better.

Does this mean that our society is fixated on the perfect? And if I remember my history correctly is that not the time that civilisations in the past have fallen from power and into the slow steady decline of ruin (i.e. Rome)?

It is said that history repeats itself and that those who fail to learn from it are doomed to repeat it, if this is true then is this a warning from history? A warning sign of social decay? And what does this mean for us if it is?

Please explain your answers.
I thank you in advance for your insight.

As someone who IS perfect, I constantly have to lower my standards...

OK, seriously- we* are constantly bombarded with perfect images in movies, on TV, and in print. It is a challenge to be real amongst all of that beauty. Kids are especially vulnerable to such influences, because they have nothing to compare them to.

I suspect that we as adults would be doing our kids (and the future of the world) a better service if we gave them more realistic images, and goals.
Good question. Keep thinking...

It's called survival of the fittest, In the biological sense, we tend to look for a mate that helps ensure survival of our lineage. This is the same with other animal. However, human society, out of vanity tends to be fixated with perfection which does contribute to downfall of some empire (e.g. cleopatra, helen of troy). Even so, this only bring forth the true essence of survival of the fittest. meaning they are not fit to survive even though they are deemed beautiful or perfect.

I think you're looking to far into it. Yes, most people now are self absorbed and obsessed on being perfect, but not everywhere.
