Apart from religeous reasons, why should marriage mean that you should not have sex with other people that you find sexually attractive? I am a firm believer that faithful monogamy is the right form of a relationship but I am looking for purely logical arguments to support my position.

Well, monogamy was designed to make sure a man takes care of the children he has with a woman. It's an old fashioned approach to say the least, but something deeply rooted in tradition. Nowadays, it's much easier for a woman to keep from becoming pregnant by a man and women have their own means of support, but still, monogamy is the social norm and thus has a great deal of pull in modern society.

Ethically, monogamy is a choice between two partners. When there are children in a relationship, I believe it's the best way to go, but even childless couples can suffer from jealousy. I am married myself and would not be able to handle my husband being with other women and then coming home to me. I have know people in "open" relationships, but seriously doubt that they work in the long run. People are so prone to feeling neglected or jealous when they aren't being paid attention to or another person is getting more attention(or is more attractive, makes more money, they fall in love with each other, etc.).

Monogamy is just easier. Would you really want to have several relationships with multiple women and the associated children? I can't even fathom the amount of money that someone would have to make in order to support such a situation!

In a mutually monogamous relationship, there are no worries about S.T.D.s or pregnancies outside the relationship. Couples are also very connected financially, so introudcing a third party to the relationship can cause financial worries. Some couples can handle "open" relationships where there is agreement on the rules by both sides, but most cannot due to reasons above along with psycological worries about where the other partner is.

sorry can't support your opinion.
The reasons that society says we should be monogamous are based on all of the tenants that I loath...

1. monogamy = some form of ownership ie: ball & chain
2. religious judgments
3. jealousy/ insecurity
4. losing of ones self identity and personal choices

Nothing really logical about monogammy, sorry.
Other than the comfort and sence of security people seem to find in the notion, but most of those people just don't know their partner is not manogamous.

.
Because marriage ( in part ) represents commitment of exclusive love and heart to one another. Sharing sex exclusively with each other in a marriage is an expression of love for one another. That expression of love is not be be ' expressed ' to anyone outside that marriage. I hope to be gifted with the joy of being married again one day. When I am in a marriage with a man. . . his and my love for each other would be expressed towards just us two. If one of us took that expression of love and ' thinned ' it out by having a sexual encounter with someone else. . . that would be sending a sad message to the other in the marriage that that expression of the preciousness of sex . . .making love. . .is not being held precious and shared just towards their spouse.

i guess...mainly because people get hurt when we're not faithful. we're selfish human beings and like to feel we possess something to feel secure...so in a marriage, we feel our husband/wife belongs to us and they should stay faithful in every way. once that mentality is set up, we get hurt if people do not follow what we expect. that's just how the society teaches and how we react when security breaks down. as simple as that!

Because revenge sucks...and nobody wants to hear another of those "Lorena Bobbit" type stories on the news. It's sooo wrong!

The main thing I would be concerned with is spreading disease. It wouldn't be fair to my wife if I was banging another broad and didn't tell her before me and her had sex again.

If one chooses to have many sexual partners, then there's no point to be married. It's just that simple.
