Does Valentines Day hold significance or we succumb to the market-oriented trend which is followed by the youth mindlessly?

Personally, I love Valentine's Day. I'm single, and probably will be for awhile, but Valentine's Day always makes me happy. It's a day to celebrate love. How great is that? Yes, it's hideously over-commercialized, but it's heart is in the right place. /sap

Saint Valentine is the Patron Saint of lovers (as Saint Christopher is the patron Saint of travellers)

St Valentine, like all of the saints, has his own day, which in his case is February 14th

valentines day originated many years ago, it started with St Valentine.
There we're was a girl and she was in love with a poor farmer.
But without a dowery in those days he couldn't marry her.
But St Valentine gave the man a dowary of sheep to give to his loved one.
And her father let them marry, and after St Valentine was remembered on febuary 14th.
