Where did it come from? And to what extent are things covered by Murphys Law?

It has it's origins at Edwards Air force base in the late 40's when they were experimenting with rocket sleds.
It is worth noting that Maxwell's extension to Murphy's law states that "Murphy was an optimist".

In my opinion, it's the number one excuse for human error.

It should be understood that if there is more than one way to do a thing - and when human knows how to do what human is doing - that there is still a 50% chance of doing it the wrong way - making a mistake - and that is when something that can go wrong - WILL!

Where did Murphy's Law come from? 1948? 1930? maybe 1900? In reality - where it came from makes no difference - it just is.

If you count changes in the wording and name of "Murphy's" Law, probably a lot longer ago than the actual written record. In various places around the world and at different times in history, similarly worded "Laws" have probably been passed verbally down from generation to generation.

What does it cover?
It covers anything, anywhere, any time that a successful outcome or perfect finish of the action, game or plan is desired.

According to my understanding and experience with "Murphy's Law", "anything that can go wrong, will and at the worst possible moment."

Things happen - in the middle of busy lives - I doubt that that has changed since the beginning of time - and I think that man has always had 'law' though unrecorded to describe the experience.

Go to wikipedia and look up Murphys Law. It appears that it started at Edwards Air Force Base in 1948 and an engineer with the last name of Murphy was the poor man it was named after. It's a very interesting read and will tell you what you need to know.

Murphy's law is a popular adage in Western culture that most likely originated at Edwards Air Force Base in 1948. The Law broadly states that things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance. "If there's more than one way to do a job, and one of those ways will result in disaster, then somebody will do it that way." It is most often cited as "Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong" (or, alternately, "Whatever can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible time," or, "Anything that can go wrong, will").One important fact about Murphy's Law was that it was not actually coined by Murphy, but by another man of the same name.

Well, in my life, it is my moto--- I adopted it when I was about 6 and my mother kicked my father out and we had to live on nothing-- but that wasn't bad enough, my oldest brother (17) was asked to caddie more so my mom would have enough money so we can eat-- he left home and moved to another state- then my youngest brother got sick and got Hodgkins- my mother sold everything we had except the house because it was given to her by my grandmother, and moved to phila. to be near my brother for treatments-- he luckily survived-- 47 more years to be exact- my mother had a stroke the first year he was home from the hospital- in a come for 9 months- didn't know who I was-- and that pretty much says it all except when I had girls, she though my girls were being sexually molested in the woods in the middle of the night and called the cops which came to my home at 3 in the morning looking for my children---my life-- one true moment after another of murphy's law--- whatever can go wrong-WILL GO WRONG--- you can bet your life on it............and I did.

Also know as Sod's Law, it states that anything that can possibly go wrong will, and at the worst possible moment too.
