Is it really worth spending upwards of 10k for a single day event, only to have everyone complain about the crappy food?

I feel like it's a exhuberant expense that must be concidered carefully. Since I am getting married April 2007, we have spent approx. $3000. and almost have all the details covered. I will be sure that it is NOT a waste of anyones time or our money. :)

Well, to you, it obviously does sound like its a waste of money...but for me and my fiance, we're excited about our wedding, have a vision for the most special day, and both believe a special milestone in your life requires being marked in a very secial way...it is not simply a party with drunken relatives, it's an announcement that your life from that day forward is new, different, bound by love and committment for one another...we are planning a wonderful wedding which will cost us $25K or a little more, but it's worth every cent to us, because we want to share our happiness iwth our friends and family, and this is how much it will cost for us to do it our way. Nobody else has to do that, nobody is forcing us to spend that money, we want to, and we can afford to, so I don't see it as a waste at all. It is the special times that make everyday life rich and wonderful...

It is only a waste of money, if the marriage comes to an end. People need to not only invest in the day, but for the rest of their lives. Not just the wedding, but the marriage.

That a yes and no answer, because it depends on a few factors,
1,are the couple in love, 2 are they financially stable,3 do they want to spend more on the wedding or the honeymoon.

In my opinion,is should be nice, you shouldn't have something you don't like, but don't go into debt just to please your guests,it's better to spend it on the honeymoon!

My dream wedding is on the beach, casual, and yummy food!!

I think it depend's. I'd rather see a couple that has tenure invest in spending a lot of money to recognize their love, have fun, provide entertainment, etc., then to see a newlywed couple outdo all of their Peers, get expensive gifts and then announce they're getting divorced two years later. Then it's a huge waste of money for them and the people that bought them gift. Why should we have to keep buying gifts everytime they get married? LOL!

I figure it is what ever will make you happy. For the girls who have it planned sense childhood, they will never be happy till they get the big wedding. In my case I wanted it with as little fuss as possible. The only thing that I had to to have was my family. I really had to have them their. Other than that, I could care less. We saved the money for a really nice honeymoon.

I don't believe in spending money . the best way is just to hold a
simple party to pay homage to our friends and the family and then take the money and spend it for useful things or at least have a honey moon trip to the best place and have a good and sweet memory of our marriage because later we won't face happiness due to life problems.

Yes, yes they are. It is the marriage that is important, not some party. The money that is spent on those things is just silly. But, to each his/her own. It may be worth it to some people...personally, I just don't get it.

It's like anything else. People should indulge in what they can't afford. There's nothing wrong with a simple wedding.
