received THE COMPLIMENT of a lifetime.

The reason I ask is tonight I got compared to Tupac...which I never would have even joked about considering how ppl feel about Tupac. I feel like this is the biggest compliment I will ever receive! I asked WHY and the guy said it was the attitudes in the lyrics. Hard hitting and don't play!

It just might be a better compliment to be told that your music is so unlike other people's that it's unique, and yet that it appeals to so many people despite that uniqueness. Look at what Ray Charles, for example, accomplished when he fused gospel music with blues--he had a unique musical product that no one else was presenting. The thing about being unique is that, for the time being at least, you have no competition. Other people may imitate you, but I think it's a better compliment to be told that up-and-coming musicians are being compared to you (i.e., that you're an influence on them) rather than the other way around.

Eric Clapton, because it meant the emotion could be felt in the lyrics (listen to Layla). It would also mean I totally nailed some killer guitar solos, and having my guitar playing measured near the vicinity of Clapton would make my day.

If somebody compared one my songs to Robert Plant, I could die happy.
