i need help now!!! What are those things you walk through called . . .?

you know when you go into BART or a subway station and there are those things with three bars that roll as you walk through them, what are they called? i'm writing an essay due tomorrow and i need to mention those things, don't ask why, but i can't remember what they're called!!!!

Yes, they are called turnstiles and they probably have a counter to track the number of people going through a gate. They are also interconnected with an identification system in some cases, so that unless you are allowed by the system, the turnstile doesn't oblige.
