Looking for some ideas for a story ( I'm a writer). I'm sick of the cliche " walking in on them" scenerio... This isn't meant to bring up bad memories I'm just looking for ideas. Thanks.

Here is how it happened to me...my husband of 9 years had been giving me grief for not rotating his just washed socks with the already in there clean socks in his drawer (very anal I know!), so finally one day I decided to do it to shut him up, and there under his sock pile was the letters from Patty. Oh and she loves him and oh he is so wonderful, and oh poor him being married and a new baby and all and trapped, yadda yadda gag me. I took all the letters and spread them all over the dining room table for him to see when he got home from work and then I sat down and waited. When he breezed in he saw the table, got a little pale and started scooping them up. He didn't mention them to me, how could he?
For two days I let him wonder what would happen, and then one night at his parents house I brought it up after dinner. Kind of back fired on me actually, it turns out Patty was an old girlfriend from his school days and his mother had given her our address when she called looking for my husband one fine day.

I'm a writer (also) and yes, catching lovers in the "act" has been overdone...although if you're wanting it be a violent story, this is a great ice-breaker.
Try this. Have the cheating couple in a park cuddling and kissing and there is a TV crew there interviewing people about how they're spending their first beautiful spring day in the park (after a long winter) and have this cuddly couple in the background. Let them be discovered on TV by the one being cheated on. She can ask for a video of the news story for that particular day and she can look at it over and over until she devises a plan to get her revenge on her boyfriend.
It's a start. Although that probably isn't the "worst" way to find out someone is cheating on you, it's humiliating when you catch two people being so obviously in love with each other (when they think no one is looking).

This is not wildly original, to say the least. How about you are in a chatty conversation group, and at least some of the participants mistakenly assumed that you already knew...so their sensibilities spring from sympathy for what that dirty rat did to you. The only thought you can muster is that you cannot allow yourself to look even more pathetic by letting on you did not know...

I am a writer also, wanna be that is, and it is hard to find NEW ways for the romance to fail.
One that I think is clever is the wife's intuition that something is going on between husband and best friend.
Cute looks between the two, catching them together in dark corners, looking for something missing, together.

Getting called by someone telling me where he is, and going there, and there he is! And her!
The walking in on them is overused, I agree. I like something proactive like she follows him, or hires an investigator, or just sees him out with new gf. Best of luck to you!! Let me know if we can read the story.

Have a group of friends conversing and one mentions how she met a great guy and starts to describe him and their sex life. Once she further goes into detail you realize that she's talking about your man.

How about at Christmas time....when all the family is present...and the bomb is dropped on you, right before time to open gifts?????.....this was done to me in 1976...worst xmas ever!
