Yuck

I looked online and found this
In September 2006, Australian television crews from 60 Minutes and Today Tonight attempted to rescue a 6 year old boy who they believed would be ritually cannibalised by his tribe, the Korowai, from Papua, Indonesia.

As a young teen my mother lived in the South Pacific, in a group of islands known as the Solomon Islands, she recalled that some islands there were inhabited by cannibals, so yes

Practice cannibalism? You're either a cannibal or not. How do you practice cannibalism? Do you eat part of somebody's foot, wait a couple of days and go back and eat up to the knee?

I wonder if they use steak sauce...

Canibalism is still practiced in several places in South America, Africa and South East Asia. Not all canibals eat flesh. In some tribal cultures the cremate the individual and then make a sort of thin soup from the ashes and drink it.

I just want to REFUTE Mr. Greb's report that the "BATTAS" as he calls them...WRONG!!!! they are not the "BATTAS" they are the
BATAKS of Sumatra are NOT! I repeat NOT cannibals. Excuse me! Have you been there GREB? NO! Well I have lived in Indo for nearly 20 years and there are no Cannibals in Sumatra Jerk! So don't believe everything you read! Cannibalism has been outlawed in Indonesia for a very long time although it did still occur there up until about 20 years ago in some extremely (and I mean really, really extremely remote places) and not in the way Westerners think of cannibalism. Not like you eat your family members. It was about War! so please folks be very, very careful with your "KNOWLEDGE"

Chris: Keyword: They "BELIEVED" would be cannibalized. I'm not saying that it never happens or it never has happened. Truth is that "Papua" call it (It's name is Irian Jaya, it's no longer Papua, that was changed when Indonesians took it over) is one of the extremely remote areas that I was talking about. We are not talking about cities, towns, villages, here. We're talking about people who still wear gourds on their penis' and grass skirts. This is a tribe. And I am telling you, these people no longer practice cannibalism. It is sensationalism. People who have lived in Indonesia for many, many years have relationships with the Dani and AsmatTribes of Irian Jaya. They have long been studied. Look it up on Google for C's sake.

The Korowai tribe are direct neighbours of the Asmat and live north of the Dairam Kabiur. Their habitat is limited by two large rivers and the mountains in the north. Their swampy area is approximately 600 km² bid. In this difficult area are living up to 2500 Korowai together in small family groups. The Korowai are hunters and collectors. They nourish themselves mainly with Sago which they get from Sago palms. They get their main protein food from the larvae of the Capricorn beetle. The huntable animals represent their further base of life. There are wild pigs; Casuar bird; birds; snakes; and small insects. Vegetable food is also very important for them. Especially palm leaves, fern, breadfruit and the red pandanae fruit.

The Korowai live together in small family groups in tree houses. These tree houses can reach heights up to 50 meters. The Korowai build such kind of tree houses only if there is a dispute with the neighbours, or if they live in an hostile area. Their normal tree houses are around 6 to 25 Meters high. A Korowai family with up to eight persons live in such kind of houses. But there is a strict separatism between men and women. Their material culture is exclusively limited to indispensable things of daily life as well as decoration articles for the body.

Particularly the still common stone axe, bone knives as well as the grave stick to remove the hard skin from a Sago Tree and the wooden Sago hammer. For the decoration of the body we have the bones from the wings of a flying fox. The Korowai women place this in the nose. Also the necklace from dog´s tooth are really important for them. The mothers still give these necklaces to their daughters. The men use necklaces from pig´s teeth. The women use only a small skirt made from tree skin and Sago fibres. The men use only a leaf around the penis. Some groups have just the half of a nut around the penis. Around the chest you can see also some rotanings. Without their net the women never move out of the tree house. The men never move out without bow and arrows. OK? You know, you can believe one thing on the internet and that makes it true? Are all things all journalist say true? Or is it because they are Australians or 60 minutes that makes it true? Do you not remember Dan Rather from 60 minutes and his scandal that forced him off the air? I am PISSED!

I'm so sick of people giving Indo a bad name just to satisfy their own need to feel smart.
