I have a really picky rats and I was just wondering what type of food you think they like best.

I'm talking about food, not treats. I know what treats they like, but when it comes to food for them they seem to only pick out certain items and half of it goes to waste.

I am a rat LOVER and all rats have their favorites. It is recommended by my vet and many others in the rat community that you do not refill the food bowl until they eat it all, or they will continue to only eat what they like best. they need everything in the standard rat food for their health and need to learn to eat it all. It may seem cruel at first, but withold treats and only fill the bowl when they empty it all. don't allow them to pick and choose the rat food. This is very important to keep them healthy. I have 4 myself. Also, you should never ever have just one rat. they are too social and need stimulation from their own kind. You must have at least two or more to keep them happy. All the food will get eaten eventually and they will NOT starve themselves by just not eating what they don't like if it is all their is! Get stern and learn some tough love with them. They are picky but the best pets in the world! Also, get them some vitamins you mix with water a you'r local pet store to compensate for all the stuff they aren't eating. Use Rat/Mouse food and not Hamster/Gerbil food. You can get it at the petstore too. Take care of those babies! Look at the website petrat.info. They will tell you anything you want to know!

well you can try different types of rat food, dont give them food thats not specially designed for rats because it can cause health problems. My rats loved sliced bread as a treat every once and a while they also loved to eat unsalted peanuts, and grapes. they would go crazy over sliced whole wheat of just plain white bread, but not everyday. always make sure the food is fresh because rats will often try a food once and if it does not taste good or makes them sick they will not eat it again since they have no way to spit anything out or burp they can be in alot of pain if something upsets their stomachs to much. good luck I know lots of rats can be picky.

I am from Australia so I am not sure if u have this where u are. GR2 Pellets are the only thing rats should eat if you want them to live for a long time. A treat once a week is ok eg chocolate, fruit and vegies and dry salted biscuits.

The best food to feed them is lab blocks. Not the seed diet, but the actual vitamin filled blocks. They will get hungry enough and eat them. :)
