Our barn needs some more hunter/jumper kids. We only have a few. What do you think a good way to get the message out there?
Also we are the middle of a city in Southern California.
Thanks for your help.

I would say the best way to get more kids is to take the ones you have to shows. You need parents to see that your barn can produce winners and that you foster a loving, learning enviroment. Also, hold an open house and display all of your barn's talent. Once parents and kids see what a great place you have they'll start coming in until you're filled to the brim. Be aware though that if you're not running a good, friendly program then you're not going to attract alot of business. If you're not seeing alot of people coming in then it might be time to reevaluate your teaching and training philosophy and think about lowering your prices. Good Luck!!!

The best way for you to advertise your business is start sending the word out through friends and going to events. Also get together with local and surrounding area arenas and see if they won't allow you to hang a banner advertising for you.
I've learned through experience to go straight to other barns and stables and see how many are enrolled in their classes- group and private. You may find that either they are full and having to send kids to other area barns or that they have the same amount of kids enrolled as you. If they are full and sending clients to other barns then you can jump in and leave your business cards as a referral.
Try the internet, local feed and tack stores, and newspapers. Have a snazzy catch phrase and watch the clients roll in

When we started our lesson/camp program at our farm we simply put an ad in the local coop magazine and one in a local news publication. We were soon over run with people who wanted their children to take lessons. Unfortunatly we ended up having to cancel the summer camp due to heat and drought, but that definatly did the trick and was very inexpensive. Also try posting an ad in the local tack shops, feed & seeds, etc.

If you want lots of people to see the message then you should make some signs and hang some up in town. You could also try e-mailing some friends and telling them to pass it on to there friends.

advertise in a So-Cal horse magazine- say hunter jumper barn looking to expand, has stalls open, etc. Kids welcome- friendly learning atmosphere, etc.
You can also post at local shows, in the newspaper, online at boarding or hunter jumper sites, etc.

Flyers, everywhere where there are kids. Grocery stores, schools, and places like that are great.
