This one I actually did. I called in (several hours late) to the HR Department. I explained that I was going to be delayed. Perhaps all day. I told them I wasn't allowed to say too much, but only that I was being interviewed by several IRS agents regarding company finances. Then I called the next day and said that the interview had gone into aspects of the company that were very complex, and would take the rest of the day.

While sitting by the pool, enjoying the sun, I could hear my phone ringing almost constantly.

When I returned the next day to work, I was grilled by the CEO and the CFO. Both crooks, by the way. Well, I explained, there was nothing I could tell them. I was under orders not to talk about my discussions. In fact, I told them, I was not even supposed to say that they had met with me. But being the loyal employee that I was, and concerned about any liabilities they may face, I was open and honest about the meeting.

They treated me very well for a while, got me a new car and a few other perks. But then I quit.

They're probably still waiting for an IRS investigation. .
