I have 1500 artists on my iTunes Library and Damien Rice is definitely the best.

You really won't find another good artist like him.
My advice?
Register on the website www.eskimofriends.com, go to the forums, and see if you can find anybody to give you bootlegs of his songs.

He's covered everything from Led Zeppelin to Prince and Radiohead to Pearl Jam, and he has about 30 original songs that haven't been put on any CD.

Also, he has tracks that he guest stars with,
"The Power of Orange Knickers" with piano goddess Tori Amos
"Don't Explain", a cover of Billie Holiday, played with Herbie Hancock, quite possibly the best modern piano player in the entire world (I was shocked, really)

he has also done many side things, such as Unplayed Piano (Single), Cross Eyed Bear (from the album Help!, a compilation) and a cover of P!nk's Get This Party Started (from the album Even Better Than The Real Thing; it's a very jazzy/blue cover, so if you didn't like the original, give this a try)

Once you've tried all those, here's some other Irish artists worth looking up.

John Marr of the Smiths, now with Modest Mouse, is irish
as is Morrissey.
Some artists of very different styles that are irish are Ronan Keating, Enya, Van Morrison, and nearly unheard of Nina Hynes.

Hope that helped.
