What is narrow mindedness? It is the lack of proper knowledge of looking things in better and right perspective.
People who look beyond 'self' are supposed to be positive people having broad mindedness. Any one who is self centerd, selfish, miser and doubting others, having suspicious and destructive attitudeand are opportunists are peopel who can never think beyond themselves. It is a matter of self -realisation and being 'evolved'.
On the other hand, taking things easy, doubtful thinking etc may crop up if the other party is too carefree and has no serious approach towards the issues.

Education can improve people and make them understanding and liberal. It depends where they are educated. Education merely does not mean getting degrees, it means that you mix with different people and learn their culture and know about their religion and practces.
People must travel to large cities and if possible to western countries to learn about different cultures. Interacting with different socio-economic group of people teaches and shows a new direction and a way of life.
Boundaries are set by families as they are conservative. These boundaries can be removed by mixing with variety of poeple and educating the girl child especially. Respecting the girl child and allowing her to take a profession.
Educate a girl and you educate a family. Certainly the system will change for the better.

Narrow minded always think that they are always right with their own perception. The only ways to let him/her to change into broad minded is to prove that he/she is wrong. So he/she won't think that he/she is good enough on something and start to think differently.
Another way is to show him/her that he/she is in narrow minded by showing something of perception that he may never think before or see before.
Let try and see how is it?
