A compound is formed when 2 or more elements chemically join together. Table salt or asin is the element Sodium combining with the element Chlorine. Na + Cl > NaCl. Water is a compound formed when hydrogen combines with Oxygen. If one lights hydrogen in air they will get water from the oxygen in the air combining with the hydrogen and see a light blue flame from the heat given off when they chemically combine. Some compounds are natural in that they are in trees or other living things. These mostly have compounds of carbon with other elements. It is always elements combining that make a compound.
