I was caught shoplifting in June 2003. I was only 18 at the time and my cousin (who was also shoplifting but under 18) was caught also. It was one of the worst experiences in my life and I learned a lesson I will never forget. I paid all of mine fines and restitution to Walmart. I was told I was never to enter another Walmart anywhere in the world or I would be arrested for criminal tresspassing. My cousin was allowed back in Walmart the next and didnt even get a slap on the wrist. I have been back to Walmart several times over the years since the incident and I just wondering if I am pressing my luck. I have used credit cards and I have also taken things back and given them my drivers license. Nothing has been said to me or anything so should I not have anything to worry about if I'm not ever doing it again ? I know Walmart has a large daily turnaround of customers and they cant possibly keep up with everyone entering the store. Any one have any advice or know anything?

I wrote to the main loss prevention headquarters right after the accident and apologized and also to the manager of the store. I received a letter in return saying permission was denied and to write back in a year. I never wrote back again because I was afraid of the rejection.

I wouldn't worry about it dude. I remember several years ago, I was on vacation with my girlfriend down in FL and I decided to steal a DVD. I have no clue why I did it because I had over 600$ CASH on my person. Got busted. Similar situation, the LP dude was laughing and stuff at me, because it was so little in damages. They did not end up calling the cops or having me sign anything. I told the LP guy I would come back to the store and mop or do work for 1 day for free because of my actions, he got my phone number, I left and never heard from them again. You see man, if it's not above $60, there is really not much they can do about it. In most cases like the ones you described. They will not even go after criminal charges, because it cost the corporation money to take you to court. They have to pay a filing fee, now they do collect the fine and get that money back. Lets say if you stole a 120$ MP3 Player.. Well, They bust you, then they pay the court fee's to press the charges. Court fee's for something like that are around 50$ ( work at a law office ), then they collect the fine you pay. So in actually the $120 + lets say $300 fine comes to $420.. They subtract the 50$ in court fees and Walmart has made $370.. You see how it works.

I myself wouldn't bother going back into a Wal-mart, but I don't think you should worry about it, they just told you that in court for many reasons, to put that fear in you so you would not ever think of doing it again. If anything was to happen, just show them records of all the times you went in and bought stuff, and say something was to go wrong make a copy of everything you have typed up and show the courts. I think your fine, just might want to seek some legal counseling...

It is simply a question of right or wrong. You already chose to do something wrong and got caught. Now you are pondering doing the wrong thing again???

If I were you, I wouldn't go back unless things straighten out, or unless you absolutely need toilette paper! Even if you might not get caught, doing the right thing is what makes you different from the scumbags walking around, and also gives you something to be proud about forever. Good luck!

This is a standard warning/threat handed to every shoplifter. Can they actually monitor every store they have? Actually, yes. Would they bother? No, unless you are a professional thief they want to keep out.
If you want to be absolutely secure about this you can call the store manager and ask him who you need to contact to lift the threat/warning.
Frankly, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

You answered your own question. If they really wanted you, they would have you already. It is my understanding they tell all their shoplifters that same story, and all goes back. I would not worry about it, the chances of getting caught is probably even less than winning a lotto.

i would write the corporate office and ask permission to begin shopping with wal-mart again. let them know that you have learned your lesson. if they yes go for it. if they say no, you will have to respect their decision and never enter a wal-mart again.

I'm going to have to go with the first answerer. It's definately not worth risking another arrest to go shopping at Wal-Mart. Get it straightened out first, and if you can't, you should go somewhere else.

If you want a misdemeanor on your record go ahead. If I were you I wouldn't go back. Go to another department store. My mother always told me you can't beat the system.

I would say that you have nothing to worry about so long as you don't break the law on their property. Then and only then would they persue a trespassing charge.
