I work in radio & do contract production also. I can tell you that the recording program doesn't really make a difference when choosing a mic.
If you are looking for inexpensive, durable, all around mics I would suggest the Shure SM57 or SM58.
They fit the bill for most projects without breaking the bank & they are quite durable.
