We live in south-central Michigan (by Lansing) and there are many schools around here that have closed already. We are waiting to see if our daughter's school will be closed or not, but they seem to wait until about 6:00 in the morning before they make a decision. It is 10 below zero (actual air temperature) with a wind chill of 17 below zero here right now. They say the wind chill in the morning will be about 25 below zero! BBBRRRR!!!!!

Yes, not only is it cold, the roads are quite icy. We're in southern Ohio.

Sometime during the night, they changed it to one-hour delay. Wonder how many kids won't show up today because they thought there was no school? They shouldn't be allowed to change their minds after a certain time.

For those who have complained that we are wimpy about the cold, please keep in mind that we don't usually get long cold streaks like this, and we are not prepared for it. A lot of poorer kids in our district don't even have warm coats. Most ride a school bus and had to wait in the cold and strong winds. I also heard at school today that they had a hard time with the buses and were out at 3 a.m., trying to get and/or keep them running. For another thing, our district is pretty hilly, and we've had bus accidents in the past because of icy roads, like they were last night.

Same here in Ohio.

I don't recall that we ever closed schools due to cold temperatures, in my childhood. 40 years ago, our Winters were much more severe than today.
