Is it a good idea to bring my Volvo s40 1.9t to Jiffy Lube for an oil change, and if so, is there a type of filter or oil that I should recommend they use?

Speaking as a mechanic... Jiffy Lube can do it with no problem... (and no I don't work there, just very familiar with them) just make sure you not getting the kid that doesn't know his *** from a hole in the ground. Ask for the synthetic oils... a decent Jiffy Lube will also top off the other fluids and tell you if your air filter etc. need changing. I don't know where these folks are taking their cars... but if you feel like something isn't right tell the stores manager. Some people exaggerate about their experiences too... for example... if the car has been running... when you check the oil level after you shut it off it won't read full... it will read way over full cause the oil is splashed around by the crankshaft and connecting rods... If you get an oil change and they don't change the filter... you go straight to the manager and demand a refund in front of other customers... he will take care of it, and probably fire the kid, and no place washes the filter... if he has a friend that is cleaning off filters trying to make them look like they been replaced... then they are stealing the new ones for themselves and the manager should be told and Better Business Association should be notified

I drive a junker and I wouldn't trust Jiffy Lube to change my oil. I do my own. If you know how to use a wrench and can be taught to sell air filters and wipers as add ons you can get a job there. Look closely, two weeks ago that person may have asked you if you want fries with that. Fram filters are good, any brand name oil is good. The most important thing is to change it often.

my sister lost about 2 quarts of oil on her garage floor because JIFFY LUBE did not tighten the oil filter to specifications.

After we took it back in, they argued with me and told me that they never tighten these with a tool - only by hand. While standing there, they checked the oil and said that the dipstick read "FULL". I pulled it out, wiped it off and had them read it again. They saw that it was not full.

I gave then 15 minutes to do the job over and get it right this time. No problems since, but they will not see my sister in there again.

JIFFY LUBE BAD! If you go there, request that they tighten the oil filter to specs and prove to you that they did.

If you can do it yourself (it's not difficult), WIX oil filters are the best, and you can't go wrong with Quaker State oil.

Take it to a Volvo dealer.

It might cost you $65 but they will have the right filter and oil for it.

oil change is a do it yourselfer, most places get the cheapest of oil and some will actually just wash ur oil filter and throw it back in, i know this because my buddy works at the repair station at a super walmart, yep thats right another reason to hate super low prices.
