I have a 70' tree (it is like a maple or a spruce) it is about 30' from my house but it is leaning towards the house. It is in it's middle stages of dying. It still blooms in the spring but not as much as it should. I think the people I bought the house from cut a big limb off of it. Did a half *** job and that is what is killing it. Anyway I want it down before it comes down on it's own and cuts my house in half. Basically I want to know about how much it should cost me to drop it and possibly grind the stump. I know a buket truck will be needed and there is plenty enough room to get one back there.

just get an estimate from a pro. they will climb the tree and cut it down in sections. some arborists even have machines that will chew up the stump untill it is gone. it sounds like about a days work.

The tree service may not want to use a bucket truck because it may get damaged by the falling limbs. They'll just climb the tree. You'll need one man in the tree and maybe three on the ground to do cleanup. It's probably a one day job. I'd guess around $1000, perhaps less if firewood is in demand in your part of the country and you let them take all of the tree. Get several bids from licensed contractors--you'll probably see quite a spread in their estimates. Try to get at least one bid from an arborist, and discuss with him whether the tree could be trimmed in a way that it could be saved.
