What gives you the idea this is a party issue? It has never been a party issue to sell arms ever! It is Big Biz in Euro/Asia, and USA, and this is fact. When we as a government approve arms sales it has to be for a need of defense against an aggressor or we don't sell at all. And it would have to be both parties to vote not one. The answer is emphatically no! But there may be a Republican and Democrat that joins up and votes together and gets it done for their common interest and a game plan. They work together not a part. Get it? Money talks and BS walks on Capital Hill bubba. And it is BS if you still believe that the parties are separate? hmmmm?

My God, this is a simple question, and it doesn't require a lot of mediation. A Democrat (at least one in his/her right mind) would support Taiwan. In fact many arms deals have already been made to Taiwan with support for both political parties.

In 1979, the US shifted its recognition of "China" from Taipei to Beijing. As part of this process, the US signed a treaty ensuring Taiwan would be able to defend itself. This is the reason arms sales continue today. "This act also requires the United States "to provide Taiwan with arms of a defensive character", and "to maintain the capacity of the United States to resist any resort to force or other forms of coercion that would jeopardize the security, or the social or economic system, of the people on Taiwan." " Edit: The comparison with Hawaii is not applicable. Everyone accepts Hawaii is part of the US, however "A July 2007 Congressional Research Service Report confirmed that US policy has not recognized the PRC's sovereignty over Taiwan"

No arm sales to any nation! Period! Nations have smart scientists who can examine their components, steal the technological designs, and sell the technology to others who may turn out to be America's enemies.

Simple answer: I don't know.
If you asked a neocon, they would say definitely yes, because it's in the best interests of capitalism - who gives a hoot who you're selling to as long as the money is good, right?

I'm sure if a portion of the profit is given to the "needy" they would sell guns to Bin Laden.
We need to dump charity.
