It can & does happen.
Look at the ratings on a seller before you buy.
Many are reputable & have good return policies.
Buy private & go at your own risk.

I've been using eBay for over 8 years now, and have had almost all positive experiences. nuggin Your Answer: Here's what I believe are the most important steps when shopping on eBay--
1) Check the feedback of the Ebayer. Look for people that have been members for at least a year, and have at least 98% positive feedback. Examine all negative feedback closely
2) Read the auction carefully. Are all original cords/instructions included? Is the Ipod in excellent condition, and played recently? Good or bad pictures? Ask questions using the link at the bottom of each auction.
3) Look for non-generic auctions. Some companies will sell hundreds of units and put lots of "no-gurantees" on their site. I recommend looking for the sellers who have a great rating on ebay and don't do this for a living. They're usually just honest people who aren't using the items anymore or want to upgrade.
Always be slow and careful. Ebay has saved me thousands of dollars from buying in stores, so I hope it can do you the same. Good luck!

You take a chance even in stores, abot 10% of products fail, ipods fom my experince are buggy anyway, but if you bought a New one your covered and Ebay will work with you you have so much time to return if it is defective, pay with PAY Pal and they will also help you but it's still not a sure thing.

i felt the same way when i first bought something off ebay (an xbox 360!), but i have come to find that ebay is very reliable. remember, every seller gets feedback from their buyers. you can view this feedback via a link next to their profile. and a lot of expensive items have return policies.

I have been lucky so far but I always check the seller's feedback. I also pay through PayPal so that I have a way to dispute things if necessary.
Just be careful. Chances are that if the price is too good to be true, something is probably wrong.
