I have noticed people go espcially ga-ga over blue eyed babies (or green etc) over dark brown eyes. What's the big deal. I have a baby who has blue grey eyes and people make more big deal than friends who have babies with brown eyes. Has anyone else noticed this? I feel bad when people make a big deal over my babies eyes but ignore my friends black or brown eyed kids (when making compliments on their eyes or features etc)

To kaveeona - regarding mixed babies. Mine is a mixed baby also which i suppose makes it more interesting that she got grey blue eyes with dark hair and olive skin. However my friend is in same situation as you as first child was born blue eyed and to mixed parents, father is Egyptian and dark eyes and features, she is half caucasian half arab with light brown eyes, first baby they had is blonde blue eyed, 2nd baby brown eyed dark hair 3rd baby is light brown eyes and light hair, all have white skin. However the first baby gets more attention as people think its amazing that he has blue eyes and blond hair when both parents dont (he inherited features from his caucasian grandmother). I think its hard for the other kids but they get over it and parents treat them all equally and dont give more attention to first child that has blue eyes than to the brown eyed ones. It all working out fine for them

As the mother of a girl who was so often admired for her amazing brown eyes, the aunt of a nephew who was as well, the aunt of a niece who was admired by so many people who saw her when she was little, and the aunt of another niece and nephew who had remarks about their beautiful eyes; I find it hard to believe that that people pay more attention to babies with blue eyes.
When someone finds a baby cute they think up what features they'll comment on, and blue eyes are an easy one to comment on.
What I have noticed about people and babies, though, is that very often when a baby is well dressed or particularly cheerful-seeming they tend to get noticed more than babies who are not well dressed. Any chance your friends don't bother dressing their children to look particularly nice?
You mentioned your friends' "kids". Are they older than your baby? That would explain it too. People talk to babies and often aren't all that interested in children once they're not babies any longer.
Any chance you live in an area where most of the people have dark eyes, so your baby's eyes stand out more?
When my kids were little two had beautiful blue/gray eyes and one had super-dark brown eyes - the whole bunch had all kinds of strangers paying attention to them; so, again, I don't believe its a matter of eye color.

I think people react more to light colored eyes when it is a baby or an adult. Most babies are cute but sometimes they all look the same so when something stands out ....that is what people go ga ga over. Really in the grand scheme of things eye color is not going to be important anyway. Later the important things will be spirituallity, brains, health, self disipline, imagination, respectfulness, and so on and so forth. Your child may still recieve more comments about the eyes but people will be more attracted to the substance that is in your childrens' hearts.

Since brown eyes are dominant, the recessive gene for blue could have been passed down all through his family line without resulting in blue eyed kids. In that case it's not unconceivable his genes are Bb instead of BB. Combined with her bb genes that gives a 50% chance of resulting in a blue eyed child. My husband also has brown eyes. Like absolutely everybody in his family except I believe two distant relatives (who are sisters, so on the same distant branch). But it still looks like our son's eyes are going to stay blue, they look just like mine and my dad's. And no, there isn't any doubt about paternity.

Ya I think thats weird how people do that me Im kinda caught in the middle of the war of eye attention lol for I got Green Hazel eyes.. they are green but I have like a smig of brown specks around my iris's very little thou.. Of course on top of that I get people always telling people even my mum either telling me or others my eyes are brown till the most amusing was when my mum was dumbfounded and realized that my eyes are infact almost completely green it was very amusing...
But ya people just dont like what they dont have plus on top of that blue and greens are know to be exotic and in some cultures some kind of power.. I think also because blue and green are not as dull as the darker colours, the fact that they stand out almost like a glow lol I just think its pretty.. as for babies I think they are all cute no matter what eye colour.

my son has blue eyes even though me and his father have brown eyes he inherited it from his great grandmother or something like that but ever since he was a baby, everyone commented on his eyes. He is 15 yrs old now and he still gets compliments from people especially the girls. He often gets asked about his ethnicity. He is hispanic but looks white.

brown is the most common color eyes so when people see babies with blue or green eyes then it is something different than the same old brown eyes.

well, as a brown eyed individual, i understand first hand how boring it is to have brown eyes. i think people like the exotic colors more on babies because theyre eyes are so big in proportion to their face. but i think babies faces are cute regardless of the eye color.

i have noticed this. my baby has blue eyes and people love it. however, i've noticed that most babies with dark brown eyes also have dark brown eye lashes, which are gorgeous and get all sorts of praising remarks.
