Why?
Why did you do this again?
Don't you know how much it hurts us,
how much it worries us?
Sure, I understand,
I know what it is like to want something, to need and to crave something,
I've been there, fell down and got back up, just like you.
Yet, sometimes it seems like you don't even try
no matter how much we seem to mean to you.
So I begin to wonder if you'll always be the same.

I am a highschooler, and I do express my feelings a lot and am very emotional, but I am not emo, I just had to put to paper how my dad made me feel. (yes I take offence when someone calls me emo)

That is perfect. It really touched me my dad has an addiction too. I haven't seen him for a long time well for years. It was his birthday yesterday and I don't even have his number to at least call him. I do know he has not changed and is still on drugs, My mom left him when my sister and me were 7 years old. I can still remember that day like if it were yesterday. I just hope he is okay and hope he doesn't die from too much drug abuse and alcoholism. I wish you the best and hope your Dad and you can have a close relationship. I wish he could see my kids, my oldest is 8 and has never met him. And my youngest his 2 he was born at 6 months and 1/2 and was only 2 pounds at birth I really needed my Dad at that time. Well, I hope I can see him some day again. Good luck.............

Poem touches my heart, my dad was a alcoholic and I felt so much like you, your poem says alot! My father decided alcohol was his 1st love, so I had not spoken to him for years, then I get a call that he is dying. Well I had such mixed feelings. The one thing I am so glad I did was tell him I forgave him. It healed me! Your dad may or may not change, but I want you to know you are not to blame, and you will be strong and be a great person. Make no more excuses for your dad, that does no good, believe me I used to do that all the time, and no matter what you do or say, only he can help himself for himself. Please talk to someone you can trust so you dont keep all your hurt and anger bottled up. I wish you the best and a great future!

This is really good. I don't know a lot about poetry, but I think that this is something a lot of people can relate to. My uncle had a addiction and we all worried about him for a long time. He died two years ago.
Maybe you should tell your dad about how you feel, let him read it. That might be the thing that changes everything.
I know. . . It is easy for me to tell you what to do, I'm not there. But it would be worth a try.

One day, you'll be able to give it him. He does know he's hurting you, he's just too sick right now to realize how much. I'm glad you are finding a positive outlet for your feelings.
You didn't mention the type of addiction, but it's important to get support. It's too hard to go it alone for you and your family. United Way is free and confidential to use. Their number is listed in the front section of the phone book and by calling, you can get listings of community resources, like support groups...lots of free groups when it comes to addiction issues.
For example:
Nar-Anon is a support group for ppl who have family or friends with drug addiction issues.
Al-anon is the same only for alcoholic issues and Ala-Teen is for teenagers dealing with friends or family with alcohol issues.
I hope you & your mom get some support. It can make difficult times more bareable. I know, been there-done that. Peace.

I think its great and you have chosen a good way to express your emotion.
Im sure your dad will learn at some point to cure himself from this addiction.
Ask a seperate question on how to ease addictions. There are plenty of people here who may possibly have experience.

I think it sounds very sincere and heartfelt. In my opinion you have a talent for writing. I hope you continue. It will help you to let your feelings out whether or not anything else becomes of them. But please don't try to put much power into what others think. These are your thoughts and feelings and are really not subject to others approval/disapproval.

Its not really that much of a poem. Maybe you should talk to your dad before its too late. Don't make yourself regret it later, knowing that you had the chance.

Your father is a grown man who has made a mistake. that's all. Do not make an excuse for him. Pity him for you are strong and show your love for him by not making the same mistakes he has.
