All of the above but nothing really helps as much as a Cepacol tablet (cough drop with numbing agent in it) which gives you a good 15-20 minutes of soothing comfort which is enough to let you fall asleep at night. It comes in a spray form too but I prefer the lozenge.

Best thing to take the minute you feel a sore throat or cold coming on is one of those Jamieson Zinc/Vitamin C tablets. You can take up to 8 a day. One day of those and it kicks your cold out the door, but only if you start it right away. Works for me most of the time or if I do get one it's not that bad.

Don't use a lot of salt when you gargle--a quarter spoonful in a glass is plenty. Too much will irritate as it burns and dries.

If it is simply a sore throat and not strep throat. You may first gargle with warm salt water. Then drink hot tea with generous amounts of honey and lemon. Repeat as often as necessary. I have also taken just spoonfuls of honey and swallowed them.
I hope you feel better and I hope this information helps you.

Herbal Throat Lozenge This homemade lozenge is simple, easy, and quite effective at treating a sore threat. 3 tablespoons licorice, powdered 3 tablespoons marshmallow or slippery elm, powdered 3 tablespoons red raspberry leaves, powdered 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper 10 drops scented geranium, sage, or rosemary essential oil Honey Cornstarch Mix herbal powders together with just enough honey to make a thick goo. Add essential oil and mix well with fork or fingers. Pinch off small pieces, roll into balls, and flatten slightly to form a lozenge. Toss lightly in a bowl with a little cornstarch. Set to dry for 12 hours. Store in an airtight container. Then eat! It sounds gross, I know, but it works!

Gargle with warm salt water. Take ibuprofen - it's an anti-inflammatory so it will help with swollen glans. Sometimes i fing drinking a carbonated drink like Sprite or 7-up can help (and yes I know it's usually what you take for an upset stomach). Warm soup or tea with honey and lemon. But the first two I mentioned would be the most effective.
