OK,
two things are coming to mind when I read your question, the first is that since you call it a him, it could be puberty which he is at just about the right age for. It can make them a little weird for a while till the hormones settle in(much like humans, although I think girls are worse). The other is that beardies don't like to be approached from above since their most common predetor in the wild is birds, they are very wary of anything that seems to be approaching from above. A better approach would be to put your hand in front of them but low to the groung and move forward from there where they can see you. If you only come at them from above and they can't really see you, they can sence light and shadow differences through their parietal eye (also called third eye) it is located between but slightly behind their eyes on the top of their head. It looks like a scale with a black dot in it.
My suggestion would be to only approach him as I explained and if the behaviour changes then you know that it was just his defensive behaviour that was triggered by the overhead approach. If his behaviour does not change when approached from the front then I am thinking it is prob just puberty and to give it some time and he will most likely be back to his old self in no time.
good luck

Firstly, is it a male or a female, if this is a male and you are male it is showing you that he is the domanant male and you have to saccumb to him, if it is a female and you are a male it is showing you that that she is not scared of you.
She can also not be happy with the enviroment as such and you might have to rearrange the settings, remember the beardie is new to you, and it might be used to feeding and fending for it self and you will have to handle it a lot more, when at home take it out of it's enclosure and put it on your shoulder and go about your daily chores with it on you

It is perfectly normal. My dragon does it on a regular basis. Theres alot of reasons - showing off, defenses, stretching.

Most likely there is something bothering him when you go to feed him. They will only puff up their beard and flatten out to make themselves look bigger when there is something that they think is going to harm them. Yours is still quite young and new to your household; so he may still think of you as a threat. Handle him daily and get him used to you.

With out actually seeing it I believe this to be a defensive posture, remember when you are handling your pets repts, they are the bottom of the food chain. It is natural that they are always defensive. Good Luck

this is just a natural reaction when they are scared or stressed which could be cause by there enviroment change or they dont want to be handled.
