A lot depends on the basis of the lie.

If you think the spouse lied about an affair or tryst, then no, you won't ever get a straight answer.

If the lie was about something seemingly trivial, then eventaully the truth may come out.

It depends what they lied about. If it is doing something he/she was supposed to do and didn't, then you will see the deed wasn't done.

If he/she was cheating on you, you may find people who saw them. However, people think they are doing you a favor by not telling you the truth sometimes. In which case it would be very difficult to prove.

Relationships are built on trust. Once trust is broken, it is very hard to get it back.

Did they lie about something important? Or is the fact they lied the important thing? Sometimes, you need to confront the liar and ask them point blank if they lied about it. If they can lie straight faced, you're in trouble. You will never be able to trust them again.
Then you have to decide if it is important enough to end the relationship.

Explain to your spouse how important truth is to you. But, make sure it's not the pot calling the kettle black. Explain how important it is to you that you be open and honest with each other. Your spouse should be your best friend. Friends don't knowingly lie to or hurt each other.

Have him take a lie detector test.. You can take him on the Maury Povich show and have this done. You will find out the truth that way for sure! That is not too long at all! What do you feel he lied about if i may ask?

It depnds on how bad you want to know. Lie detector tests run a few hundred dollars. They are 95%+ accurate. You can look up the number for a tester in the phone book under lie detector.

Ever heard the old saying, "Let sleeping dogs lie?" In other words, leave it alone. It's old news.
