Mario Kart for N64?

When playing Mario Kart on N64, there is a level (I think it's the Luigi Raceway in the Mushroom Cup) that has a hot air balloon with one of those question mark boxes hanging from it. The balloon goes up and down and it seems that you're supposed to try to get the box from the balloon. I've never been able to. Has anyone ever done it? If so, does it give you something good? I'd hope so considering how hard it seems to get it.

It will give you a lightning, nothing that great.

It's hard to get because it's a bit of a bonus if you can get it.

A bonus as in you get an extra powerup. That's all.
